We offer a wide range of our health and safety courses online so you can complete your training in an environment that suits you so you can learn from home, work or another remote location. We know it’s not always practical to get to a training centre and the pandemic meant that many of us had to adapt to new ways of conducting our services – including us!
All of our CITB courses are available online and the ideal way to progress your career and knowledge. The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is aimed at those who have completed the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) and are managers or looking to step up and progress in their career.
When attending the SMSTS online training course, you will still experience the course just as you would in person. It is presented live over Zoom by one of our experienced tutors who have previously worked in the industry, and you will be able to talk to them and ask any questions throughout the training. You’ll be joined by other people on the course and will still get to take part in group work and class discussions just as you would in the classroom.
What Does The SMSTS Online Training Course Consist Of?
The SMSTS online course is a five day course covering safety legislation, supervisor and manager responsibilities, hazard awareness, case studies and everything else you need to manage safety on site. You’ll leave with a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of your responsibility as a manager for ensuring safety on site.
You’ll know why it’s important to carry out regular risk assessments in the workplace and how to identify, monitor and control the hazards that are common place in the construction industry.
The course is made up of a mix of case studies and classroom exercises which will be assessed by the course leader as well as an exam at the end to demonstrate your understanding and competency. You will need to attend every single session of the course to pass. Once qualified, your certificate will be valid for five years.
By the end of the course you should feel confident to monitor health and safety on site and ensure the safety of employees.

The certificate lasts 5 years after which the SMST Refresher 2-day course will need to be undertaken before the existing certificate expires. The CITB certificate takes 2 – 3 weeks and will be emailed to you.
Book Your Place on a SMSTS Online Training Course
Once you have booked online you will be emailed Joining Instructions, confirming the course details. Before booking, please note that you need to have adequate IT skills and a laptop or computer which has a working microphone and camera (not an IPad or mobile phone).
We ask you to complete an Initial Assessment via a link that is emailed to you. It is a CITB requirement that all delegates have a sufficient level and understanding of English to take the course.
You will receive an email with the Zoom link to the course at 6pm the evening before the course start date. Check your Junk folder and if it has not been received by 8.15am, call us on 0333 444 0018. We recommend downloading Zoom before the course via Google Chrome.
We ask you to log on at 8am to ensure that you don’t have any problems connecting to Zoom. The course starts at 8.30am.
There will be a link in the Joining Instructions for you to complete the Delegate Information Form before attending the course which is a mandatory CITB requirement.
Confirmation of your result will be emailed shortly following the course completion.
The certificate will be emailed within 2 to 3 weeks after the course completion.
